An Incredible Opportunity

Summary: A brief summary from Jacqueline Chin about her experience at the Sydney Region Quality Teaching Conference.

Comment / Review

I am excited to share with you a great opportunity I had yesterday. Myself, our principal, counsellor and the district guidance officer were invited to run a workshop at the Sydney Region Quality Teaching Conference. My school has been developing a 'Positive Wellbeing project' which focusses on developing a positive school environment, equipping kids with resiliency skills and an understanding of their own character strengths in order to prevent the rising rates of anxiety and depression in children. It turned out that our workshop was the most popular with over 70 delegates attending. We had to present this in the main auditorium which was quite daunting!!! I was so nervous I almost could have wet my pants - anyway when it came my turn to present the work I have been doing as chaplain - God was gracious and everything came out well! I was able to say that the church and schools are wanting the same things when it comes to the wellbeing of students and a desire to teach values. I also shared that my resources for teaching values have come out of a local church. I ended my presentation identifying the need for continued funding for chaplaincy and that research and lobbying is occurring as we speak.
