Finding a new SRE teacher – The interviewing process


Summary: A guide to the interview process for new SRE Teachers.

PRIOR to Interview

1)    Arrange for nominated members of Board to discuss and sift through application forms (SeeApplication form_example) to determine who are the successful  interview applicants

2)    Arrange location and interview times for applicants

3)    Determine number of interviewers from Board. You may like to involve the school executive (particularly if they are a Christian), former or current employed teachers from the same Board (since they are up-to-date with current high schools ministry issues.

4)    List of interview questions to be given to interviewers (see Interview questions)

5)    Allocate different questions to respective interviewers

Interview

1)    Pray for the applicant at the commencement and end of the interview

2)    Take notes of strengths and weaknesses of each applicant

POST Interview

1)    Interviewers to:

a)    Discuss the strengths and weaknesses determine the order of preference for the successful applicant (if there are a range of high calibre applicants)
b)    Determine whether the chairperson should contact the second preference if the first successful applicant turns down the job. In the case where the second preference is chosen, consider conducting a second round interview if opinion is divided.
c)     If there are no appropriate applicants, it is better to wait and re-advertise the position

2)    Chairperson to:

a)    Contact the successful applicant:
b)    Arrange a time to meet to give the relevant employee documents (if the successful applicant accepts the offer. See checklist below)
c)     In the case where the successful applicant turns down the job offer (see point 1 a-c)
d)    Contact and thank unsuccessful applicants
e)    Inform the Board of the successful applicant

3)    Newly appointed teacher to be invited to attend the next Board meeting.

4)     Ensure a Board member is appointed to regularly meet up with the new teacher (to discuss issues)

- Employee application for leave forms (can be obtained from GenR8)

- Income Tax Employment Declaration Form;

- Contact details of Board members and other employees

- Primary documents for SRE in NSW

- Board’s constitution
